I’ve SAID I was going to do about 3 different 5ks over the last year. When each one arose I said “ok this is it, I’m gonna do it!” and then guess what? I backed out. I’m a chicken, what can I say.

Anyway, perhaps the secret to getting this one done is roping someone else into it too. So I called up my boyfriend and said “Hey you! We’re doing a 5k together.”

No backing out now; we’re all set to go. We’re planning a 5k in April and a 10k in July.

I’ve gotten to the point where I can run about 1.5 miles straight without having to walk. Still getting the hang of the breathing I need to keep running… my body doesn’t get tired, but my lungs do, and right now that’s the only thing holding me back. Anyway even with a walking break, I managed to do 5k on the treadmill in 34 minutes or so. I know that if I run slower I’ll be able to go longer, but it’s hard to pace myself sometimes…I just want to RUN! 27 days to go until the real thing!

My boyfriend has been so amazing in helping me with this. Every day he tells me how great I’m doing and that I’m improving really quickly. I think that helps more than anything :)

Oh, and I got real running shoes instead of my silly old cross trainers! That helped too. Yay New Balance, you saved my feet.



Goal Set! 3 years ago

I found a 5K near my home that happens June 17th. That’s it! I’m going to do it. I’ll start training as soon as I can… perhaps having a date set will help push me to start getting in shape.
