dance at a salsa club without looking like "the white girl"

I’ve become friends with this Colombian woman who invited me to a salsa club for her birthday last Friday. I’ve been salsa dancing in the States before, and I’ve always felt like the clubs are full of white people who take a lesson and dance the whole night, stiffly, sober, with no hip movement, counting in their heads, twisting their ankles… ugh.
This place was different. There were definitely a few of those people there, but far more of the crowd was actually able to dance salsa, and bachata, and merengue, and reggaeton… and tell the difference between them. I had a spectacular time, and I danced really well. It was totally hot… I can’t wait to go back!

I need someone who can actually salsa to do this, right? Well, I suppose I could go to the salsa clubs alone, but how lame. My Cuban friends that I have here are excellent salsa dancers, but super unreliable and never call when they’re supposed to go out dancing with me. This goal should be on the completed list. Come on, Cubans!
