But I will continue to help strangers. The lastest stranger I helped was Frannie’s mom. I mailed her a card with wishes to feel better!

I was a stranger today 3 years ago

I rolled my kayak, and a very friendly family exhibited “boating ethics” and came to my rescue. Read more here.

There are quite a few homeless in DC 3 years ago

There is actually a paper here in DC that I read every once in a while that is called Street Sense. It is a paper that is written by DC’s homeless. There are then homeless people that will sell the paper for a suggested contribution of $1.

One of the vendors that sells the paper is named Conrad. I see him all the time, and one day, decided to get a copy of that month’s paper. Lo and behold, there was an article about him. He has always been kind, never pushy.

Since I’ve known him, I’ve bought the paper a few more times, and we actually share the same birthday.

While he’s not quite a stranger, he is in need. I will go out of my way to see if I can help him out when I see him again. Otherwise, I’ll wait for another stranger in need.

I’ve often given leftovers from meals to the homeless. Recently, I remember that we’d gone to get cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, and I was only able to finish half of mine. I wrapped up the other half, and as we were walking back to the hotel, we passed a man rummaging through the trash. He’d managed to find a few soda bottles that had a little soda left, so I offered him my cheesesteak. He was taken aback by my offer, but accepted it with gratitude.
