I always thought I’d want to work with children. I majored in Deaf Education and during that time I had the chance to be around kids and I still thought it was something I’d like. I’ve never really wanted to be a teacher – just be around kids. When I found out that the elementary school close to our home was hiring in kindergarten I was excited and applied, interviewed, and got hired. I’ve been working there for almost 3 months and while I like being around kids there are just some times when the job feels absolutely exhausting. We have more “problem” children in our class than the other two kindergarten classes and as much as I know it takes time for children to adjust to school I can’t help feeling overwhelmed by the kids who just don’t “get it”.
I don’t think it’s a good thing that I was just counting the days until Winter Break and I’m dreading going back on Wednesday. Heck, I’ve even created a countdown to my last day of work (May 22nd). This isn’t good. At the same time I think this’ll serve as a learning experience if I can manage to deal with it until May.
