I-ve been in Honduras 7 months now, and… I have learnt Spanish. I can speak it and understand it, but as I-ve never formally studied it, writing is more difficult.
yoyoma has written 4 entries about this goal
to Honduras today. Will be there for four months. Better get started on this goal, I leave in two weeks!
I’m thinking about spending 6-ish months in central America, come September. My main purpose being to fill up my gap year with an interesting time… but it will also serve as an aid in acheiving this goal.
How fluent can one become after immersing oneself in a Spanish country for six months? I speak French fluently, so I assume that will help, but perhaps this is just my optimism. I have no formal background in Spanish, though I can sort of understand written Spanish (at the “see Spot Run” level)... and if someone speaks REALLY slow, I get the gist of what’s going on.
Anyone have any experience will immersion and can give me any insight? (I’ll be living with locals – I assume that will help).
Thanks!
