I believe the only way to become smashingly interesting is to get interested. Everyone has a different idea of what a smashingly interesting person looks like – mine is extremely smart, self-actualized, involved, vital, and humble. Finding things that spark you will naturally make you push yourself, and pushing yourself is the best way to grow. Growth, in my opinion, makes people interesting. So if you seek to be a good human being and grow with a proper perspective, you’re probably well on your way to becoming smashingly interesting. It’s not just the things you do, but the way you look at and experience them.
I know someone like this. He’s in his 80’s and has overcome some of the toughest circumstances imaginable, thanks to his lust for life. He’s done a bajillion things but doesn’t talk at length about them (unless pressed under intimate circumstances), and this makes him even more intriguing. He doesn’t put on any airs, is truly humble, and has the attitude of “this is just what I’ve done with my life because I was compelled by an interest in interacting with the creation of history.” If that makes any sense. Anyway, I think we each have to find our own way of being smashingly interesting. I just think he cuts a pretty fantastic example.
