I’ve so much text to read for class; I am miserably behind and have no intention of catching up. So, I just began a book sent to me by my sister-in-law :) The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. Yeah! I’d been wanting to read something by this author for a long time. What a great surprise to receive such a perfect package in the mail. I’m only about 50 pages into this 600+ page book, but so far it is a very compelling read. I’m uncertain about the translation though… I like what I’m reading. It is incredibly candid and liberal in its descriptions and the inner thoughts of its characters… but I keep thinking that I am reading an American author. So many American cultural references; it isn’t until a name pops up or a food that I am reminded that this is a Japanese author. So, I wonder have we really globalized this much or is the translator of this book trying to translate it into an American voice. Regardless, I like what I’m reading and I’m vowing to read at least six chapters per night (this book has a lot of chapters.) Here I am beginning my quest to Read More.
