I was 16 and instructed on how to DIY with some ink, a needle and thread. So I did. And it’s not bad, frankly, but I didn’t really finish and it does look like it wasn’t done in a parlor, which has led to a couple of half-joking questions if I was in a gang (um, no) and me being more self-conscious of it than I ought to be. I think tattoos, especially in San Francisco, are becoming increasingly socially acceptable, and it’s not big or obscene or even colorful or anything.
So, I actually ended up talking to Anthony about this yesterday. I looked up some reviews for places and there’s a ton of good places in town, and I do already have the design I’d like to complete it in mind. I think it will probably run me between $100 and $200, despite it being fairly simple (black only, small), just due to minimums. And technically, it is probably considered a cover-up kind of, though I don’t want to hide any part of the current design, just go over it and add on, so some artists have a problem with that.
I have a really neat original idea for a sleeve or half sleeve, but I’m pretty sure I am not interested in a sleeve at all for myself, despite the fact that I do like how they look. I think just finishing the one that I started going on 7 years ago is plenty – I’d like to turn it into something I can be proud of.
