Lesson 1! 10 months ago

Well, I had my first BSL lesson on Monday afternoon which lasted three hours. It was quite confusing at times but really fun! It was good to meet new people as well, even though there weren’t many of us.
Will be interesting to see how much I can remember!
We just learnt the basics, such as finger spelling, a couple of questions, and greeting people. I already knew most of the letters so had a bit of an advantage.
There hours straight of learning was quite tiring and there is a lot to remember!

Monday!! 10 months ago

Well there was space on the BSL course so I’m about to start learning! First lesson is Monday afternoon, scary =D

Fingers crossed!! 11 months ago

I applied for the language courses earlier – put British Sign Language as my first option and German as my second in case there are no spaces left for BSL. If there are no spaces left for either I think I’ll leave it ‘til next year!

Kinda excited but also nervous!! Scary starting new things by myself! :-)

I did give up on this... But 11 months ago

At university they do free language courses, and I’ve been debating whether to take one. I couldn’t decide whether to take either an advanced course in German, a basic course in BSL or none at all. Or even start a new language completely, but I don’t think I’ll do that.
I wouldn’t have to be assessed if I didn’t want to be, can just get a certificate of attendance, so if I didn’t feel comfortable I wouldn’t have to do assessments, so I don’t see any harm! It’s only about 3 hours a week too, so I think I probably will take it up for the next semester, and if I like it, also for year 2, but could take German for year 2 or something, I really don’t know! :D Probably wouldn’t have time for it in my final year unless I could take it as part of my course, but then I would have to do assessments… Hmm, I really did hate German oral exams!!

Although I still want to do this, it’s not the most important thing right now. I should probably concentrate on my A levels as they do come up more often on my list :-)

I know some random words and lots of colours. I also know letters so can fingerspell. Me and a friend asked a teacher about sign language courses, and he’s finding out how we can do one near us =]
