I keep buying them. It’s a disease.
Beloved gave me a solution, however. Get a shelf upon which to place unread books, and don’t buy any more than you can fit on that shelf.
I’m taking this up as my new method for reading books I bought, and considering this goal complete.

Finished! Ended two in one day. A good, powerful read about crowd thought/action and the British fooball supporters.

Attorney of the Damned
I finished another one!
A Decent read, but I wouldn’t recommend it to people.

I’ve been working on this recently – just hit the halfwaypoint last night, and will try to finish it by tommorow.

If I’m going to do this right, I need to clear off the bookshelves of stuff I’m not interested in anymore, and make a list of the stuff I want to read.
A partial list of stuff I’ve started but not finished:
The Pursuit of Love – Nancy Mitford
Love in a Cold Climate – Nancy Mitford
Among the Thugs – Bill Buford «Finished!
Endangered Pleasures – Barbara Holland
Great Dames – Marie Brenner
The Hours – Michael Cunningham
The Man – Irving Wallace
The Island of the Colorblind – Oliver Sacks
Attorney for the Damned – Dennis Woychuk «Finished!
We’ll see what I get finished out of this list in the days to come.

I’m making good headway on this, about halfway through it. I picked it up from Von’s the first day they were open after the fire. So far it’s everything I would expect out of a mitford book.
Wish me luck!

I just finished it, and all I can say is wow. The ending really messes with your mind.
One more book off the list.

Once upon a time I was a high school student who didn’t get out too terribly much. Shocking, I know, but true. During that period of my life, I thought good deals on books came from the clearance shelf at Waldenbooks.
My sophomore year of highschool, I found A Debt to Pleasure, first edition hardback for $3. I picked it up – looked interesting, started reading it and was immediately hooked. Long story short, I lost it about halfway through the book.
Fast forward five years, and here am I muddling along in life. Every once in a while I think about the incredible book that got away. I even mention it to my beloved in a fit of longing. All I can remember about it is it has “pleasure” in the name and a giant peach on the front.
Beloved listens… and he found it. (Signed – To a Road Resumed-Love S) My Christmas present five years later, I’m halfway through again. Time has only improved upon the writing. I hope to finish it soon.
