I finished archiving before we left for vacation… and then summer issues came, which I have now read but need to archive. Still, this is major progress. Only 3 months’ worth of issues to cut up. Piece of cake.
Bit by bit I am getting rid of all our junk. The worst part for me is that I get so bogged down when I start sorting. The FlyLady is helping with this, too. She says set a timer for 15 minutes, or 30 if you are feeling really motivated. Pick up one thing at a time in a chosen area and sort things into 3 boxes: Put Away, Give Away, Throw Away. When the timer goes off, stop. Take the Throw Away items to the garbage can immediately. Take the Give Away box to the car immediately so you can drop it off somewhere next time you are out. And then run around the house putting all the Put Away items where they belong. Slowly, as we sort through things and as we are keeping the house neater, I am losing my near-panicky feeling of the stuff in our house “swallowing” me.
