My wife went to Morocco for 8 days for the signing of the Sister City agreement. Brought on by the urging of a girl that started with her parents approval a exchange program for high school age girls – AMIE American Moroccan International Exchange www.amieonline.org/ at the age of 12. Then later with a plea to the Issaquah City Council for a Sister City with her family’s home town – Chefchounen.
After spending time with 2 school Principals (chaperone’s) and 9 high school students on an 2 week exchange from Morocco in Aug 2007. Then 2 artist and the Deputy City Mayor for 1 week in Oct 2007, I want to go visit their city, country & homes. To meet their families. Each one said before leaving here “their views and understanding of Americans had changed. They hadn’t expected so much open hearted acceptance and caring.
At the end of both visits, it was like saying bye to lifelong friends. Not knowing when or if you’ll see other again.
