We looked for almost 2 years for a house that suited our needs, and met our budget. It’s not so much that we were picky, but we kept being outbid by investors purchasing rental properties. Finding the right house took the most patience. Escrow went by in a heartbeat. From beginning to end it took us 3 weeks to close – 2 weeks sooner than we had expected. It threw off the 30 days notice to our apartment complex, as well as the utilities. Be patient, and be ready for anything once Escrow begins.

How I did it: We researched on a lot of home sites. We looked at sites like metrolistmls.com, and local real estate agency sites to find houses in our area that met our criteria. We also had to meet with a few agents and loan officers to find ones that made us feel comfortable. We asked a million questions about financial assistance programs, grants, and always kept an eye on the bottom line (closing costs, monthly payments, etc.) Read how I did it…
My friend Jessica convinced me riding a bike across the Golden Gate would be a good idea. We began at Pier 39, rode into Sausalito, took the ferry back to the Ferry Building, and rode back up the Embarcadero to Pier 39 to return my bike at the rental booth. I suggest you begin early in the day so you can take your time up the steep hills, and really get to stroll Sausalito. The views you’ll get of the city while on this ride are one of a kind, and must be experienced. Plus, you’ll feel SO good about yourself once you’re done. Biking the bridge is no easy task. BRING LOTS OF WATER!
My friend worked for this music magazine that threw a party in LA at the studio where No Doubt recorded some tracks for Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn. It was kinda cool. I was hanging out in the studio where they shot the back cover of the Return of Saturn CD case.
