I used to have a great garden, lots of herbs and vegetables, plus a few flowers thrown in for the soul. What happened? Life! My husband died and I now am away from home at a minimum of 12 hours a day. I hope I can get it figured out, because I miss playing in the dirt. More than that, I miss fresh, homegrown tomatoes.

How I did it: I started out by becoming allergic to beef and pork - about ten years ago or more. They I started studying and dropped chicken and fish. Dairy was the hardest, and I still miss it to some extent, but I just think about all the little calves that might become veal, and I soldier on. It has become a way of life, and I've accumulated dozens of cookbooks. But I have to say, a nice baked potato is the easiest fast food. Read how I did it…
My sister taught me when I was a youngster, but I forgot how long ago. I relearned with several books and web sites, as well as the great help from people on knitting mailing lists. Now my biggest problems are finding the time to knit and the money to feed my yarn list. Also, I’m a vegan, so it’s rough working the two together.
I’ve only skipped one day, but it is a struggle to remain mindful, to count breath. Who’d have thought it would be so hard! Monkey mind is driving me nuts, but I will keep at it.
