I have been doing that from day one.
REALLY.
And while I’d never settle for anything else, I just have to warn you: the price tag for it SO steep that it may exceed all your expectations.
I am – or was – an extremely happy person, the opposite of doom and gloom. But many other people aren’t. And you HAVE to live among them. Furthermore, not even tolerant Western societies are really well-adapted to cater the needs of those who are LIVERs (;)), instead of EXISTERs.
It can be difficult – and it is often overwhelming.
Be prepared to, sooner or later, pay with mind-crushing AGONY for all the bliss you will find. There is “light” on the other side of the tunnel: it’s the light of your own head having been split open.

It’s not.
Just because I don’t know exactly how to do it yet, it doesn’t mean that I will never do it – or, indeed, that YOU can’t do it. (Just don’t forget to come back, please, and help ME out, OK? ;))
Nothing is impossible: maybe for man (I doubt it), but certainly not for God or whatever you call your Supreme Being, the Master of Times.
Besides… How would you or I even know if we DID it? ;-)

I have been a vegetarian for 20 years, since 1986.
Now, what’s interesting is that I wasn’t one of those people who disliked meat anyway. I was CRAZY about meat! And steak tartare was my absolute favourite. I could live on it (and I mean that – literally).
And yet, I became a vegetarian overnight (also literally) – after reading an article about the suffering of animals for the sole purpose of becoming unnecessary fodder to overeating humans.
I have never relapsed – not once. In fact, it’s as if animal flesh didn’t exist in my world anymore.
P.S. I don’t think that an individual’s appearance – or even health! – would justify the killing of an animal, especially with such an abundance of other food choices.
Still, let me add that I never get sick (touch wood), I haven’t visited a physician since 1984 – and there are no wrinkles in sight.
I AM slightly overweight, but that’s because my life-style: due to my work (writing), it has become much more sedentarian in the past 15 years or so. I am not obese, though. (And I’ve never met a serious vegetarian who was obese – not one.)
You will love being a vegetarian.
It will likely change your otlook on the world – and for the best.
