I know this isn’t completely true, but I feel like the only people that care about music these days are musicians themselves. The only thing music related that my friends (who aren’t in bands) do is download music off limewire or play rock band. Whenever I go to shows I see people in bands watching other people in bands waiting for their own band to go on. I’m in the Birmingham Indie Rock band Super Duper Scooper. We are normal dudes that like to hang out with people before and after we play.

How I did it: My band, The Tangled Cord, recorded a 3 song demo and wanted to make a music video for our song "Razor Fern" we had a show coming up and invited a lot of our friends. I brought my miniDV camera and asked my friend, a film major, to take video of us while we played. He did a really great job of getting as many different angles/perspectives as possible (this will help later on). He filmed our whole set (roughly 30 min) and afte… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Look at yourself and make sure you aren't being pathetic. Figure out things you like to do. If you like music, go out to see a show. If you like drawing, go get some new art supplies or learn a new style and explore it. You'll have to do these things alone and it sucks, but just remember and keep in mind there might be someone there doing the EXACT same thing as you. Every time you go out don't think about it as meeting some… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Over the summer of 2008 I wrote 4 songs on an acoustic guitar. After I figured out how I was going to sing them I invited my long time friend and drummer to work on them with me. He started playing drum parts with the songs and the ball started rolling. Using some basic recording equipment we recorded demo versions of the 4 songs on my computer. We didn't spend much time on them at all but it got the general idea and most importan… Read how I did it…

I’ve been writing and recording music since I was 12. I read about my favorite bands and how they are working so hard “in the studio” and I can’t help but feel so jealous. I would love to end this double life of bring mr. student/artist and just be able to live in a studio for a month. Work on my record. And go tour once I’m done.
I sing for the band Super Duper Scooper, we recorded a demo and haven’t had time to record better quality stuff

I am a huge fan of Jeffery Brown (Clumsy, Unlikely) and many other graphic novelist that do autobiographical novels. I hope one day to publish the story of my life in graphic novel form.
