Fear of the dark was a consuming struggle that I thought would never end. But one night, with my bathroom light on as usual, and I was depressed by the thought that I would never get over this fear. So I adopted a mantra – “Now or never.” I made myself turn off all of the lights and every time I wanted to freak out and turn them on again I told myself “Now or never.” That was a few months back, and I havn’t slept with the lights on since!

A few years ago, I had the spur-of-the-moment chance to take a ride in a no-door helicopter. And by that, I mean my dad had been in it, and I was watching them in the sky, and they were doing half-dives and everything. They landed in the field, and Dad suddenly came up to me and said “hey, they have time for another ride, you want to go?”
I was terrified at the idea, but I thought to myself “If you don’t do this, you’re never going to forgive yourself.” So I just made myself stop thinking and got into the helicopter.
By the way, it was awesome. SO worth doing.
I want to do this after my next birthday. I’ve always wanted to, but I think I’ve always been more of a “talk the talk” person. So I’m going to prove even myself wrong, and get there. Hopefully, when the time comes, I’ll walk.
