move to north carolina
A matter of when, not if

North Carolina is my home, that I’ve never lived in.

Both of my parents are from North Carolina, Charlotte and the Eastern Part of the state. As a kid, summer meant a trek to Appalachia, visiting Asheville and venturing cross the border to Gatlinburg. Fall meant going to the Coast, Topsoil Beach. And so many visits and weeks spent in Charlotte, some summers I felt I lived there.

I always joke that my mom went to grad school (Georgia) and got lost which is how I ended up being a Georgia girl. Now in the San Francisco Bay Area, I admit I really miss home. Working in the solar world and seeing North Carolina become the leader in Southern sustainability has assured me that everything in life does in fact happen for a reason.

I left the South in search of change, direction as a young engineer. Found myself in California and a new revived desire for the details and practicality of my career in a new(to me) industry: solar and energy efficiency.

Currently I’m working as I did get hired on for a month after my Americorps service ended. So I’m also searching for a job, due to the connections I’ve made and the fact it’s hard to convince employers these days to hire you when you’re 2000 miles away from home, I get the feeling I’ll be working here in Cali. Which I’m happy to do, I love the Bay and will be content for the next couple years to be here. Plus, I can gain more experience and become a more viable candidate in my field whenever I make it back home.

Beat my depression (read all 10 entries…)
Update

I think alot of times depression is that illness you hide.

People usually don’t Diabtes, high blood pressure, even AIDS is hidden as much as it used to be. I thought of deleting this goal from exsistence, worried that someone (especially during a time of job search) would find it. But that’s giving into the stereotype of the stigma.

Alot of days I’m really happy, I have a fulfilling job and I’ve accomplished alot of life goals. I’m more focused one what’s right for me than what’s right in the eyes of society.

Swimming is my sanctuary, one of my favourite things to do and I try to do it often and do it more often.

I really believe that one day I’ll beat this completely and that gives me hope.

43T update: giving up on this goal

My interests have changed in life and while I’m still very interested in design, my thoughts have moved back to my engineering roots.

My design interests lie more in renewable energy, solar, and related things now.

Who knows, one day this goal may return. Never say never.
