Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

recycle more

My commitment to recycling has held up thus far. Having a working farm helps – nothing goes to waste one way or the other. The biggest challenge is water conservation – especially in these drought summers we have been having. That is hard to do with a farm, but we are managing, alhamdulillah (praise God).

A step in the right direction...

Alhamdulillah, I actually received a scholarship for the Midwest Writers Workshop this summer, which has given me the push I needed to get more serious about my writing. I have managed to write several chapters and have been proactive in researching for new chapters. It is my hope that contacts and feedback from this upcoming conference will be instrumental in realizing my goal of publication. Yippee!

Sell my Alpacas!

If you have Alpacas and are not already rich, sell them while you can. If you don’t have them and are not already rich – do not invest in them (unless you just want them for your own use and not for resale). I loved my alpacas and missed them – but investing in them was a huge mistake. I ended up selling 9 for less than the price of one. If you have enough money to invest in major advertising (code phrase for “scamming”) then go for it. Vet bills, feed, pasture care, barn care, shearing, etc. literally broke our bank. I bought them as an investment and sold them at a loss. Learn from my mistake and do not invest unless you are able to buy them for $1000 or less (which is what you can get many for now, unlike the $12,000 to $15,000 I paid per animal for mine).

forgive my ex-husband for being a butthead
tough goal

every time I am ready to forgive – he tops his old record and my ire is once again sparked – even though we have not spoken in years. Is it so wrong to want him to not get away with what he did? I hate looking like the “bad one” and knowing that he manipulated everyone into thinking he was and is an angel. Its tough being stuck with an undeserved label by a butthead.

Lose 45 pounds
Weight loss progress 14 pounds!

Well, so far I have stuck to my promise. I got the GM diet from “gafguru” who also has this goal. I have lost 14 pounds so far. Although the diet says you are supposed to lose between 10 and 17 pounds on your first week, I only lost 8 that week. Then I took a 3 day break and started the cycle all over again. I am on the 6th day of my second cycle of the GM diet and my total weight loss since my first posting is 14 pounds. Also, two days ago I joined Curves. I have only been to one session so far – I hope to go today again. I like the system – you spend 30 seconds at each “station” and keep doing the circuit for a half hour. Everyone is very supportive. They were running a $29 sign up promotion and $29 a month. I can handle that (I am already saving more than that by not buying junk food). My mind is clearer, my asthma is better and I have more energy so far. I have a long way to go, but feel I am off to a good start. I just pray to be able to keep up the momentum. I am totally off sugar !!! Alhamdulillah!

The procrastinating continues...

Well, I think an awful lot about writing. However, I can’t even keep my blog updated, let alone my book. I have a lot of good ideas for my book, but the stories gradually drift out of my mind as I procrastinate putting them down on paper (rather, typing them into a word file). HELP!

publish a book (read all 3 entries…)

bismillah…. I keep procrastinating about finishing a book. I am good at starting them, but never can seem to finish them. Inshallah, I will do that this year!

Travel to Saudi Arabia

Made Hajj 7 times, walhamdulillah. Would love to do it again inshallah!
