We explored the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, another English heritage property, on a recent trip to Canterbury. Ironically, I didn’t have my EH membership card on me, but since we have joint membership, I was let in on my husband’s one.

How I did it: After being stuck on about 25,000 words for several months, I attended a writer's retreat with the Arvon Foundation and completed not only the 30,000 word target but also the first draft of my new novel. Read how I did it…
Okay, so it’s the start of the year so I’m going to ease myself into this.
Goals for this week:
- Join a gym and go at least one other time.
I actually made it to my new gym twice this week – on Wednesday for an induction, and on Friday for a normal session (weights and cardio).
- Walk from Bank station to work and back at least four times.
Did this three days out of the five, and on the other two days I took alternative routes that included just as much walking.
- Use the stairs rather than the lifts.
Did this every day at work.
At last night’s Bookcrossing meetup, I passed on Wicked, A Short History of Nearly Everything, Life of Pi and Growing Up Twice. That takes my total up to 20, but I doubt I’m going to meet this goal.
