Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Cruise anyone?

So my family is considering taking a cruise. I would love to! I want to hit different ports like PR, Haiti, Grenada…but we will see. Of course I cannot do any of this without a passport. So that “thing” may be moved off of the list if we get this trip going.

I will surely be happy to strike something off of the list.

I had the chance to go to Hawaii…no $$. I have a chance to go to New Orleans, LA (I have been before so I don’t want to include it, but I guess I can since it would be travel and it has been soooo long.) I just have to get airfare. I think I should be able to handle that…no? Well, with my credit cards maxxed out…not so much. Hence that is also on the list.

It is all so intertwined…but I need to pull out my tweezers and separate them and attack.

I am ready. Let’s go!

I received my letter of eligibility today! Woo hoo!
Completed the first step. Next steps…pay exam fees, select testing date, study, study, study.

stop procrastinating (read all 10 entries…)
Hmm...maybe later.

That was a joke.

I find that I procrastinate because I am avoiding something, or I think it is going to be hard or take a lot of time.

This just leads to more anxiety as the deadline looms over my head. But what I have found, more often than not, is that the task usually is not that bad. In most cases it is way less complicated and could have been done eons ago. I just won’t start sooner.

I know better, but I don’t do better.

Any tips?

Why is this so difficult?

Sheesh! I am so annoyed that I cannot get this together. This goal is interrelated to another goal…stop procrastinating.

As I type right now, I should be getting ready for my part time gig. But no. I don’t stop. I keep typing. I check out Pinterest. I check out Twitter. I check out FaceBook. I check my personal emails. I check my business emails…

What the heck! And the thing is, I will say…I need to stop…and I keep going. It is like self sabotage. Why do I do this? I know better…I don’t do better.

I need to get to the source of this. I really do…

Makeup makeover...

So a girlfriend of mine is selling Mary Kay. I managed to rake up a bill of $121 dollars. How did that happen?

I have been pinning a lot of outfits that I like on Pinterest from Eloquii. The Hubz purchased a lot of clothing for me for Christmas. It is good he did, I don’t bother to put the effort in. Hence…the goal.

I am working towards it more. I want to look good. I want to look put together. As they say, dress for where you want to be, not for where you are.

I receive it!

Strike it off of the list...

Holla!! I finally got the class in, and it was amazing!
I cannot wait for next week. And, I am going to ask the instructor where he teaches and hopefully will take additional ones once the sessions at work are done. I hope they renew it…I L O V E it!

be more active (read all 22 entries…)
Elliptical, Zumba, African Dance...oh my!

Well, with my knees very angry with me and back on Weight Watchers with a vengence I have been getting my activity points in!

I have been moving my body! Yeah.

2.25 miles on Monday. 2 miles on Tuesday. Zumba on Wednesday. Walked home 2.65 miles on Thursday. Today…back to the gym for at least 2 miles again.

Plus w/ the job offering some free classes (Zumba, African dance, Salsa)...I am in a good space. And the Hubz has been doing some walking with me and encouraging us to walk too. So that helps!

Yay…being to being present and active vs. unfocused and inactive.

Purchase/lease a car in 2010...uh make that 2014. (read all 2 entries…)
Um, scratch that...make that 2013.

So yeah, since I have not been on here is I guess over 2 years I guess I needed to update that goal. I obviously did not purchase/lease a car in 2010. Oh, I remember why…because I got engaged at the end of 2010 and the money I was saving (I had about 3,000USD) I put towards wedding planning.

So let’s look at the end of 2013. With my new money saving plan and my new outlook on things, I absolutely know it is feasible.

Time to buckle up and get ready for the ride.

get my passport (read all 10 entries…)
Yep, this is STILL on the list.

So obviously this has not happened yet. I have put money towards other things I find to be more important. I mean, I don’t have money to travel, so there is no need to have a passport. That has been my thinking. And it has been my thinking for too long!

I was talking to someone recently and asked them the question…if money was not an object and you could do anything…what would you do? This person came up with one thing. I had a whole list. It is funny how the person said, “Oh I did not know we could choose more than one thing!” (No where in the question did it say you couldn’t. I think that is a testimony to how we limit ourselves…but I digress.)

So when I answered that question with all I would do (buy a home for the ‘rents, go to school full time for my bachelor degree, purchase a home of my own, get a car, get braces, get my teeth whitened, get a personal trainer, travel, do a food/wine tour through Italy, Greece, get my passport, get my hair done once a month, get manicures weekly, get pedicures every 2 weeks, pay off all of our debt….and on and on.

Then I looked at the list and realized, all of these things are do-able. I just need to plan for them. And so with this new mindset, I have decided to take money from each check to attack something off of this list.

Getting my passport is my item for this check. If it is extra to get the photo done at the Passport Agency, so be it. Bottom line, no more excuses.

So this WILL be done in the very near future.

Excited about it!

participate in African Dance class (read all 3 entries…)

After several years of this being on my list of things to do…they are offering classes at work!

It will be a small step, as it is only for 4 weeks, but I will have fulfilled my “thing”. If I really like the instructor I will probably follow them to their studio.

Also, after talking with a colleague about it, it turns out she used to instruct African Dance classes! So she has major connects on where to go. She actually referred the instructor for the class at work!

I will officiall strike it off of the list next week.

why can't i get this off of the list?

I guess it just keeps falling to the wayside. Actually, I forget about it until I sign on here and then I am like…dammit…why haven’t I done this yet? And then my focus is on something else, like paying off a bill. I guess it just is not as high of a priority as other things. The reality is, until I get my debt cleaned up I am not going anywhere out of the country. So pay of the debt then with all of that extra money, I can then get my passaporte.

REVISED: Pay off 2 more credit card bills by June 30, 2010. (It was Dec 31, 2009.) (read all 6 entries…)
Done and done w/ one caveat.

So I paid the bill off last week like I said I would. Macy’s PIF, Best Buy RewardZone card PIF…but while in Macy’s I charged up another 100 bucks in clothes. I am going to return 2 of the items and pay the balance off in full…again, but I had to come clean.

Oh, that brings me to say that I paid the BBRZ card off too, but there is a charge of 65 dollars on there…that I paid off today for my gym membership. Note to self…change the method of payment for gym.

I am taking this off of the list because it really is done and done.

2 more cards to go. I put a bit chunk of money down on one of the remaining cards today. It is addictive this paying bills off thing. Once you get so close to paying it off or once you feel the momentum, you just want to pull money from other bills/cut your spending to pay it all off.

In time…in time.

Praise HIM in advance!

Hey there…43Thing-ers! I received a merit bonus and a company bonus and with that money I will pay off 2 bills in full. Whoo hoo! I won’t remove it from the list until it is officially done. So that will be tomorrow. As much as I want to strike it off now, I will do it tomorrow when it is really, really DONE and DONE.

I would love to go shopping, since I do need some clothes. Or really I would like to pay one of my other bills that is less so it would leave me with more money left over…but I had to be a big girl and “panty up” and get rid of the “thong” and do what big girls do. I could not rationalize paying off the bill w/ a 14.25% interest rate over the card with 23.99% interest rate. So that is that.

Super excited. That leaves me with 2 cards left and I should be able to pay that off in the next four months, unless I happen upon another windfall of money.

Keep up the good work ya’ll.

Wedding incentive.

I am getting a personal trainer. Enough of the bull…time to do it. For really real though.

No more excuses. I figure I can work with a personal trainer at least 2 days a week and do training on my own the other 4 days. I am getting this weight off, I am getting ready for this race in April, I am going to get this weight off and keep it off and make exercising and running a part of my life. Done and done.

Maybe for the honeymoon?

I had not even thought of a honeymoon. I am so busy trying to stay in budget for the wedding that the honeymoon never even crossed my mind. Maybe we can go abroad for the honeymoon. That would be nice. Spain or France or Dominican Republic or Antigua or …we’ll see. I have to get my passport first.

I know, yes, it is still on the list. I am working on it. Really.

Almost half way there.

I will have paid off one of the 4 cards by the end of March. I will be able to pay off the second by the end of May. Very exciting. I will be happy to mark this as complete!

One card PIF...on the horizon.

I used my tax refund to pay off the majority of another bill. It is the one with the highest interest. It is a 1000usd bill. I will pay 400usd on Tuesday. That will leave me with about another 550 to pay from my next check. I will be happy to rid myself of this bill. The interest is so high in comparison to my other cards.

Then I can focus on the final 3. Another 2,800usd.

I have been using, it is a great site and gives prompts when you are charged fees, reminders for upcoming due dates, offers info on cards w/ less interest, 401k plans, checking accounts w/ interest rates, car insurance providers that cost less. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I have a positive net worth. Thank goodness for 401k plans. :)

All in all, I want to wipe the credit cards clean and then focus on saving for/paying on my wedding.

Keep up the hard work folks…it is soooo worth it!
