We bought our appliances and cabinets. The flooring was already in the garage. Signed a contract, and demo is set to start on Sept. 22nd. A little bit of sucky timing, since now we won’t have a kitchen during High Holy Days, but OM how awesome is this?? A new kitchen!!!

and we’re having a boy. :)
Our son is thrilled… he talks to my stomach. Well, he yells at it. our daughter doesn’t really get it. She’s just fascinated with my ever-expanding belly button.
And we figured out how to fit all 3 car seast in the back of the Camry so we don’t need to get a minivan.

almost halfway there!
Had my alpha protein test, and since the OB didn’t call me, I am assuming everything turned out ok. Structural ultrasound is the 15th. Can’t wait!

My OB/GYn called about a month ago and asked if anyone in my family has thyroid issues. My hubs had thyroid cancer, but obviously that isn’t what he’s asking. My mom has an extremely underactive thyroid. She actually takes a higher dosage of synthroid than hubs.. and he doesn’t HAVE a thyroid anymore.
Anyway. I relayed the mom info.
Lovely OB Dr. informed me my blood levels were wonky, he was mailing me the lab results, and to go see an endocrinologist right away.
Did I do it?
No. I just.. put it off. I have other things to worry about! Small son’s upcoming sleep study, trip to Boston, a whole bunch of things.
So when I showed up for my 3 month appt. and Dr. found out I hadn’t even tried to make an appt., he was annoyed. A little. Stressed that it was VERY important I go.
So I called a million endos in the area this morning. (My hubby’s endo is in NYC.. not somewhere I can easily get to). NO ONE could see me before July 31st. So I picked that one. But when I told the receptionist I was pregnant, she told me to come in immediately. As in right then. I plopped the kids in the car and went.
Had blood work, an EKG, and an ultrasound on my thyroid. Got a synthroid presciption.
Did you know that hypothyroidism can cause big problems in pregnancy if not treated? For both mom and baby. I did not. Which is why they jammed me in right away.
And now I feel a bit freaked out that I spent the past month twiddling my thumbs over my own health issue.

It was so nice. I finally saw her condo, met her little 6 month old daughter, and watched as our older kids played together. I wished we lived closer, it’s hard to only see each other once a year or so.

is NEVER going to get here. I..hate..waiting for that first ultrasound.
Still not sick. Which (I know! I know! Don’t use logic on me.. it won’t work) still makes me nervous.

The living room bookshelves are being built in a week.
But guess what?
My mother, annoying as she is, was very, very upset to hear we were pushing the kitchen off for another year. Even after my explanation that after doing what we need to do, plus minivan, we would only have half the kitchen money. Half does not a kitchen make.
Her response?
“You CANNOT have 3 kids and cook in that kitchen!!”
So she is lending us the other half. We hope to get it done at the end of summer.

a bit nervous

because here it is week 6 and I have no morning sickness. Isn’t that weird? I feel nervous because I’m not sick. But I was horribly sick with both M and E. So this is… weird.
My dr. appt isn’t until the 23rd. I hate waiting.

I think I just waved my kitchen goodbye.
Since we now are going to need the 4th bedroom, we have to clear out the 20 boxes of books, meaning we need those bookshelves built in the living room.
We will need a minivan.
We need new gutters.
We need a new garage door opener system because ours broke and the repair guy pointed out that:
it is old
it has no safety cables
it will break again
did he mention it is very, very old?
We need new blinds in small son’s room and the 4th bedroom
SIGH.

I’m not really “giving up”, per se. Let’s just say that due to one night of hubby home early and not tired, I will be … POSTPONING this goal until, oh, say sometime in mid-January.

There’s actually a Kosher restaurant near me that’s open for Passover, so I met a friend there for lunch with the kids. YUM. And it was so nice to not have to figure out what to make! (Since we’re out of seder leftovers)
I’m thinking of making a huge batch of fried matzah tonight so we can just dig into it whenever.

Today I saw a cousin I despise. She’s 5 years older than me.. our kids are exactly the same age. SHE is thin. Thinner, I swear, than before she got pregnant.
I’ll see her and the rest of the family again on June 14th for a Bar Mitzvah. I must… lose… this…weight. I cannot have evil cousin looking better than me!! (I KNOW IT’S PETTY.)

family circus

My great-aunt passed away right before Pesach. She was 96. She SHOULD have been buried Thursday or Friday, before the holiday.
But my shrew of an aunt is in charge of her estate, and was busy packing up her vacation home in Florida. She would not fly up. She insisted she had to drive. She would not get back to PA in time for a Friday burial.
She wouldn’t let us bury Aunt Sunny without her. Instead, she scheduled the funeral for TODAY. A HOLY DAY. Needless to say, the rest of the family was furious. And of course no rabbi would come to officiate, so my cousin led the service. And while it was a graveside service, it was NOT a burial, because it’s a Jewish cemetary, so she’ll be officially be buried tomorrow.
The whole thing was utterly, totally ridiculous. My aunt is utterly, totally ridiculous. So instead of having a nice family seder Sat and Sunday night, the family sat around and talked about the situation.
One to remember? Yes. Fun? Not so much.

My son now has a huge sport medallion over his bed. Matches his sport-themed room.

So here’s what I’ve done besides the playroom.
In my daughter’s room is a fairy tree that acts as a height chart. It’s five feet tall.

Wall mural project #2 done. Project #3 done. Project #4 sketched and background painted.
Photography projects #1, #2, #3 done.
Furniture projects… not so much.
Business cards printed, all paperwork set, need to print photos of what I’ve done and arrange in my portfolio book.
But I am on track to publish a real website by the end of the month and THEN officially I can take on work!
I think for a beginning portfolio that 4 murals, 3 photography projects, and 3 pieces of furniture could qualify as a good sample. Right?

small son can sing the entire Ma Nishtana. I am so proud!!
We’re going to my mom’s for both seders, so all I have to do is clean house. Bedrooms and upstairs bathrooms done today. Tomorrow the downstairs. And Thursday will be the huge kitchen undertaking and breakfast room.
Small son liked sweeping with a feather. :) Baby girl just wanted to eat it, which um, no.

If you reach my cell phone voice mail, it now chirps that “You have reached Amy at Puzzlebox Designs.”
My mom leaves at least 1 message a day. But now it’s all the same theme.
“Amy, what DOES your message say?”
“I can’t figure out what your message says.”
“What IS that?”
See, she’s so hugely negative that I haven’t told her about my little venture. And I’m not going to. For a while, at least.
I just don’t want to hear I should do this, I should do that, etc. etc, when I’m actually happy and excited.
It’s sad that I can’t share happy things with her, but really, she wrecks everything.
Meanwhile, it’s vastly amusing.
