Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I have a new goal buddy. :0)

My boyfriend has been an outstanding motivation for me lately. On our recent excursion around the Yucatan he was truly impressed with my natural ability to attempt communicating in Spanish. I said A LOT of words wrong considering my mind likes to translate from English to Portuguese and then to Latin-Spanish but it didn’t stop me from feeling aggressive about getting out there and doing it anyway. Upon our return Blue (the boyfriend) pulled out the Brazilian Portuguese learning set I purchased a few months back half-price at the Borders closing. When I come home from work he always has questions for me about lyrics to a Brazilian song or about the language in general. It’s certainly building up my confidence in myself. And I’m surprised to find myself already knowledgeable on 99% of the first lessons. Supper stoked to do this with him.

A Wonderful Refuge from the Cold

I had mentioned to my father that I wanted to see “Cirque” over again after seeing many commercials run for “OVO” on the local tv stations. Once my mother began to mention she wanted to go too, my father began to look for tickets and so they invited my boyfriend and I to go. I had just met my boyfriend a few months prior so my mother and father purchased both of our tickets as a gift to spend some time with us. (My rents had met my significant other before this, but they never had an extended period of time to talk and get to know each other.) I remember meeting them at the front of the tent. Walking from the parking deck in Atlantic Station to that location was pretty uncomfortable considering it was one of the coldest winter nights and it was snowing. Inside the tents the main lobby was bustling and it was warm. We sat in our seats and enjoyed great music and a wonderful performance. Once I have a “cushy” budget again I will definitely want to catch the next show that comes into town. So that’s “Allegria” and “Ovo” crossed off my list.

a step in the right direction...

I asked my parents to start speaking to me only in Portuguese. Unfortunately, because they have spoken English to me my whole life, they keep forgetting my request. Looks like I’ll have to be on top of it for the three of us… which spawns another “sub-goal”; Trying to Remember the original goal and keep to it!
