Check this off the list

I finally got the rune site back online – TheRuneSite.com is now live even if I still have a lot more articles to get online.

I need this now more than ever....

After a day like today at work I think I need to get back to school and find something I actually can enjoy doing.

Time to buckle down

I’ve been going back and forth on the content I have written already. Some of it I like, some of it just seems like I was just trying to fill pages. And because of that I wasn’t sure what to do and it was holding me back.

So come November 1st I’m tossing out a lot of the work I’ve done and starting over. It won’t be starting from scratch but it will be close. But the good news is that I think I’m more certain of what I’m looking to accomplish with the ebook so things should move quickly.

Will I ever get this done?

I’ve been working on the cover and the layout for the pages. The idea here is to make it work as an ebook as well as a traditional book. If all goes well I may print a few copies via blurb.com.

Right now I’m estimating it to be about 125 pages long… :)

be a tourist in my own town (read all 6 entries…)
Kind of...

I went on a photowalk in Milwaukee today. Camera hanging around me neck, snapping pictures like a madman. While I don’t live in Milwaukee I’m not to far out… so I was sort-of acting like a tourist in my own town. But still not close enough for me to call this complete.

Dream

I had a dream the other night that I was fired from my current job. The dream was so life-like and felt so real it was almost spooky. Basically I all this work was being piled on me and I was being hassled by this “director” to get something that wasn’t very important finished. I had enough and flew off the handle at everyone. And then… well they fired me. In the dream I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Could this be a sign of things to come? Who knows….

Livemocha

I mentioned the other day about trying out Livemocha.com – well I have to say the site is an excellent resource! I ran through two lessons already and it’s pretty darn helpful.

I did notice that right now Livemocha is free (it’s in Beta) but won’t always be that way. Eventually it’ll move to being a pay site. So try it now while it’s free.

Interesting site

A friend of mine just introduced me to Livemocha – looks like it could be a great help in learning German (or any number of languages).

Disclaimer: I’ve only just signed up so I’m not sure how everything works. It could be the best thing ever, or a complete waste of time.

...And I'm off!

I signed up for some photography classes the other day. Granted they’re “continuing education classes” – but hey, I’m still going back. :P

One class starts tomorrow already – woo hoo! I’m excited!

Need to catch up

I’ve been gone from 43 Things for too long. I’m back now and need to catch up… big time.

As done as I can be

Well I guess I’m about as done as I can be with the packing. There are a few odds and ends that need to find their place in a box, but it’s late and I’m tired. Tomorrow’s day one of the move! All the boxes and hopefully a some smaller pieces of furniture. Then the big stuff can be move on Saturday. Man I can’t wait to get done with this. Moving really sucks.

Getting Close

The move happens in 8 days. So far I’ve done pretty well with the packing… but hopefully I can finish it soon.

buy a new monitor
Finally...

This should have been on my list but … I’m not sure why it wasn’t. While the old monitor worked well it was time to ditch the ol’ CRT and make the jump to LCD. Found a pretty good deal in the paper and ended up buying an Acer 22” widescreen – and lovin’ every minute of it!

Finished

Well the invitations are done, I finished them on Sunday. All it took was…
Approx. 43 hours worth of work.
1800+ cuts.
440 folds.
Approx. 170 sheets of paper.
4 rolls of double sided tape.
Rubber cement.
One paint brush.
One printer cartridge.
And my sanity.

Getting closer...

Scored and folded all of the invitations. Cut all the photo sliders and the “guides” (to make them slide smoothly). Assembled a few and have more to go.

I’m getting closer to completing this goal – which is nice because my hands could use a little break.

*sigh*

After a day like today this should be #1 on my list. Worst part about it is that I can’t even enjoy my Friday night since I have to work tomorrow. :(

My hands are killing me...

Tonight I printed out 125 invitations. You would think that’s enough but it’s not. Because they’re going to have a little “photo slider” in them I had to cut out two holes on every invite (by hand). I managed to get that done as well. Started at 4:45PM and finished up at 10:15PM.

Left to do: Score the card stock so I can fold it properly. Make the photo slider. Make the little “slider guard” (to help the photo slider move smoothly). And then assemble.

Oh and the RSVP cards and directions need to get done as well. But that should be quick and easy.

#43 - 43 Things

I guess it’s only appropriate to learn a few nuggets of knowledge about 43 Things for entry #43.

1. 43 Things won the Webby Award for the best social networking website in 2005.

2. 43 Things was launched on January 1, 2005 – but 43 days prior to the launch a text based interface was online saying, “43 days till the new year. What do you want to do with your life?”

3. Launched by prominent blogger “Erik Benson”, Maktub keyboardist Daniel Spils, and former Amazon.com and Microsoft executive Josh Petersen. (As found on Wikipedia)

#41 - Charles Schulz

Since I’m in the comic strip mindset right now I might as well learn a bit about one of the most popular and influential of them all…

1. Fought in Europe in World War II with the US 20th Armored Division achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

2. For roughly two years he had a sports-oriented comic strip called It’s Only a Game.

3. His comic strip Peanuts was the result of showing the best panels of his previous strip Li’l Folks to the United Feature Syndicate.
