Even though I’m into my 30s, I have this idea in my head that I will have a job someday where I wear suits and carry a smartphone. I strive for sophistication, class, and elegance (but I rarely reach them). I see classic cocktails like the martini as a reflection of this ideal – but I’ve only had one martini and I don’t remember much about it.
I want to drink classic cocktails, though not to the exclusion of beer/wine/favorite at-home drinks. I don’t want to make these cocktails, and I don’t care about sampling them in the places where they were invented. I just want to know what they all taste like.
Here are some ideas for a list:
Tom Collins
Mint julep
Gin sling (is this a Singapore Sling?)
El Presidente (huh?)
Daiquiri
Sazerac (?)
Margarita
Sidecar
Manhattan
Martini
Old Fashioned

I’m not sure about this at all. I am only just finishing my PhD now, and have not had a lot of “me time” as an adult without constantly being in college. I’m really nervous about the change that a baby would bring…but I’m also excited. My PhD research is on pregnancy, and I’m actually looking forward to that process.
Now to get pregnant, hopefully in another couple of months.

I think this might fit my style of the moment a bit better than GTD, where I get caught in the downsides: too much planning and process (though I LOVE planning and process, which is the problem!) and not enough doing.
Here’s the original Zen Habits entry on ZTD.
