Sustain an adjusted reading speed of 500 wpm for 30 minutes
Definitions 21 months ago

An adjusted reading speed accounts for comprehension. For example, this goal would be met by reading at 1000 wpm with only 50% comprehension, or by reading 500 wpm with 100% comprehension, etc.

I insist on sustained because I can read quite fast for short periods of time—a page or so. Excellent comprehension, too. But when I continue, my eyes tire and I drop quickly back to 200 wpm.

My eyes are, however, improving. I can now continue at high speed for ten minutes before dropping off.

Learn Spanish (read all 2 entries…)
Standards 22 months ago

I’m in Spanish Learnables level three. I’m aiming to finish all five levels of Learnables, and their special topics books. If I don’t find myself reasonably competent, I’ll branch out to Rosetta Stone.

I want to be able to carry on a conversation, to understand and be understood.

Follow my evening and morning routines for one week
Rigidity 22 months ago

It is difficult to know how rigid to be. I have determined I will allow myself more leeway with my afternoon routine than with my evening and morning routines. The purpose of routines is empowering, not straitjacketing. Things come up. But they do so a whole lot more often in the afternoon, and I DO want to form some habits.
