I have been slowly working on the whole driving thing. I tried driving mom’s car with her walking me through it. Yeah, you know how people are always like “Never get your parents to teach you driving!”? Well, people are right. Ugh. I gave up immediately because she was stressing me out so badly. Now my uncle’s wife, who happens to be a cop, is helping me out. She’s great. I started out driving up and down their driveway, then I drove around in their huge field, and then on my most recent lesson we actually drove on a real road! Well, it was in this area owned by pretty wealthy people. It’s, I think, around 3 miles of recently paved road, and there are only 2 houses in the entire area. So basically, no cars! (Apparently the owners get in at around 5:30, when we were there). Or so I thought. It was during my first attempt that as I was just getting ready to turn around in the little circle area at the end, I noticed in the rear-view mirror that a car was behind me. Well, it went more like “Huh. What’s that red, boxy looking… OH SHIT IT’S A CAR.” I freaked out a little bit, mostly because I literally had no idea how long the car had been behind me, and Chan (uncle’s wife) just calmly told me to stop, and let the car go around me. I survived the first go around, and then started again on a second try, and then finally a third try. I believe it was on the third try that a car passed me on the opposite side of the road. That obviously wasn’t AS bad as finding that other car behind me the first time. So yes, I believe that means I drove 18 miles that day? That’s almost a trip to Charlottesville!
So yes, I’m slowly starting to feel less anxious about driving and I think I’m starting to enjoy it more. :]
