go to the opera
My parents surprised me 3 years ago

with tickets to the Sydney Opera House for my birthday while we were vacationing in Australia. I cried when my mom told me. It was wonderful!

Cultivate a more diverse circle of friends
Homogenized. 3 years ago

I attend a small, private university that is made up of predominantly white, middle- to upper-class Christians aged 22 and younger. The ironic thing is the school is in LA County, one of the most diverse places on earth! I’m going stir-crazy here with the lack of different perspectives. As soon as I graduate (and it will be soon), I plan to be more proactive about widening my social circle.

be beautiful without makeup
Self-discovery. 3 years ago

I first gave up makeup for Lent a few years ago, and I gained so much from it. It was extremely difficult at first, and I wasn’t used to the face I saw in the mirror. I was extremely self-conscious and I started noticing if every woman around me was or wasn’t wearing makeup. I realized just how much makeup was a mask I hid behind, how if I thought I was putting my “best face forward” I would have more confidence. I also realized how I also judged other people on appearances. It was so rewarding to grow to appreciate the natural face in the mirror over time. It was also nice to be able to rub my eyes without smearing anything! I still like to wear makeup, but it’s no longer a crutch. Sometimes I’ll go a full week without it. If I don’t have time, I don’t have time.
