A while ago, I went for supper with my family at this great restaurant called Robin des Bois. The waiters are all volunteers, & there are also others who help in the kitchen (the place has hired chefs too though. The food is delicious!). All the profits go to 4 different organizations that I know & love, & I have always thought that volunteering would be a wonderful way to get some work experience while benefiting the community. So this semester, as 3 classes at school + no job so far = plenty of free time, I finally got around registering for a shift. It was a lot of fun! The manager is friendly & I even got dhal soup & a free meal (mmm kefta with curry sauce ^^)! I was a well-fed, happy volunteer, & will return next week for sure.

How I did it: The first part is easy. Everything you need to get started is here: http://www.prisonercorrespondenceproject.com/As with any kind of correspondence, you will need time & commitment. You're getting involved in a serious project & the prisoner you'll be matched with counts on you. Also, & I cannot stress this enough, KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO. As always, I was pretty naive & my expectations were, in hindsight, probab… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I took a Film & Culture class this semester, & it helped! We watched a new movie almost every class & discussed them afterwards. Also, on my own, I bought/borrowed books from the library on that topic - guides about cinema, the best movies of all time & the like... And I actually read them & followed their recommendations! I also read the various movie reviews in the newspaper every week. So obviously I'm no movie expe… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I think in most cases, it is much nicer to enter a bedroom in which the bed is made, and that's what adults do anyways, so when I turned 18 I decided to make my bed every morning - yayyy. It turned out it isn't so bad! Just wake up 5 minutes earlier than usual, so you can talk yourself into doing it for the first 4 minutes, and then you have one minute left to actually do it. And do it every.single.morning. No exception. Doesn't matter if … Read how I did it…

I called this morning to take an appointment for later today, & turns out there are a few restrictions I was not aware of. I thus learned that one can neither give blood in the six months following a new piercing or tattoo, nor in the year following a trip in another country (depending what country it is, though; some are fine). WILL I EVER BE ABLE TO REACH THIS GOAL? I circled the date on my calendar when I will be eligible for a donation: October 17th.
