In a desperate attempt to escape mommyland, I applied for several jobs listed on careerbuilder.com. I was somewhat overjoyed when I received calls for two positions. The first call I got was for working with children with autism. The lady described the job to me and then asked if I was able to do a phone interview right then and there. “Ah…sure?!” I muttered quite confused. No word back from them. :)
I had an interview for working in a daycare. I figured as a mother with a master’s degree, I would be overqualified to be a teacher. Turns out that since I have no work experience as a childcare worker (excuse me for having a career most my life), I couldn’t even be a teacher’s assistant. It was constantly made clear to me throughout the interview that this would be a career change for me and thus I would be starting all over. I dont want to “START ALL OVER”. The theme of my life since having a child – like nothing i’ve done prior to having a kid matter. Labeled a “stay-at-home mom”, I have spiralled into an alternate universe where as an individual I am devalued. Ugh I’m just annoyed right now. Can I have a career and baby too?
