Number 15

This bird definitely was a surprise! While slowing down to cross a railroad track several miles west of my home I noticed a bird fly across the road.

I noticed it had a pale yellow stomach, brown wings and a small rufous colored crest.

I watched and studied him for several minutes as he perched on a tree limb beside the road.

Once I got home I looked at my National Audubon Society Field Guide to Birds and found that the bird I had seen was a Great Crested Flycatcher!

Places to raise young...

I have several places in my yard for wildlife to raise their young. I have a Bluebird box and a Downy Woodpecker box in the backyard along with a box for bats to roost in.

On our front door we have an evergreen wreath that House finches have kept a nest in for the past 3 years. It’s always interesting when you leave in the morning and startle the finches who then flush from the nest and scare you half to death!

Salads...

I’d never been much of a salad person until a few years ago when I took my children to Seaworld in Orlando.

We went to a restaurant on the premises and on a whim I ordered a Balsamic Grilled Chicken Salad. It was love at first bite!

So, I’m going to attempt to eat this and many different types of salads over the next thirty days.
