I don’t spend as much time online as I used to. Some old followers of mine on my various soc net sites have noted this and acted accordingly. I can’t say that I blame them. Every once in a while, some dead weight needs to be trimmed.
I’m then reminded of all these social network accounts that I have that I never, ever use, or haven’t used in a very long time. Or don’t use as effectively as I should.
Am I still on Friendster? Really? OMG, Bebo! How embarrassing!
So, some reorg of my online life is in order.
First thing to go was the aforementioned Friendster account. After I went through hell and high water to get my password. After that was my Bebo account, as I saw that it had turned into a rather tacky dating site. Then came the killing off of my Posterous blogs and Wordpress account. I had followers on those services, but the services themselves frankly doesn’t do anything for me anymore. I’m not much of a blogger right now, and my days of being a digital blowhard are slowly getting behind me. I may return to it, but, at this point, I’m finding that resharing and slightly commenting on the words of others ten times more competent at stating themselves is a better way to express myself.
Thus, I’ve kept my Tumblr account and my Google+ account.
My family would die of a heart attack if I deleted my Facebook account, so that would stay up.
My Myspace account is an embarrassment, but I have two high school friends who would rather choke than go onto Facebook, so I keep in touch via that service. It’s staying.
There are a bunch of accounts I accessed via my smart phone in the US that I cannot do here, as I don’t have a smart phone. I haven’t touch foursquare in ages, for example. But I’ll keep them up, for now. I’ll see how I deal with them after I get a new smart phone.
Once upon a time, I thought I had a need for two Twitter accounts – one public, one private. What’s happened is that I’ve hardly used either one, except to feed in things I’m doing on OTHER websites. But I still have a lot of followers on my public one. So, I’ve ditched the private one. I don’t really have anything to say that’s going to blow the world up if I have it unleashed in a public domain, anyway. I’ve also set up my public Twitter account to selectively update my status on Facebook. I’m trying to do the same thing with Tumblr, using Twitter as an update apparatus. So far, it’s been hit or miss. I can also use Twitter to pull in any posts I make on my Google+ account.
I’ve also gotten rid of my Identi.ca account, as I never really used it for anything. The jury is also out on pinterest. I also had an account on isfuckingawesome.com and chi.mp. Are they even around, anymore? I know amplfy took a dump last month. Solved that problem right there.
Then there’s the issue with my Blogger account. I had this fantasy of writing about my life overseas. Two posts six months ago and…I think you can figure out the rest. Blah.
Next week, I will need to start consolidating where my music is located. This will be even MORE of a challenge. Stay tuned.
