Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Today I am grateful for:
1. A day off from work
2. The rain disappearing so I could get a bike ride in
3. A call from a friend who is traveling in Finland. We made plans to meet up Sunday. (She come home Friday. I’m not going to Finland.)
4. Finding that little gazebo to escape that short downpour
5. Getting to see Little Grand Dude for a bit.

PLUS – this is my 300th entry under this goal. It it all ends tonight, I have a nice round number of entries.

One more last entry

Today was the first day of the AIDS Red Ribbon Ride. I have done this the three times over the last four years. It is a great bike ride covering 420 miles over five days. It goes through the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York state. It is a great ride.

I can’t do it this year due to my hip problems. I did not want to get out there and have a major problem or do more damage to myself. It seemed like the smart thing to do.

This ride has a great bunch of people involved. I saw them off this morning. I miss riding with them. For five days all one has to do is ride, eat and sleep. And be around the greatest bunch of people in the whole world.

And what makes this diverse bunch of people so great is that they accepted me, no questions asked, mainly because I loved to ride and wanted to help some people who needed it. It is something like 43Things. I always felt accepted here. That is what makes this place so great.

Those people out riding will be on my mind for the next few days. Everyone here will be on my mind for a long time after that.

Today I am grateful for:
1. Two days past 43Things ending date and I can still give cheers away.
2. And I can still post
3. A great bike ride this morning out by Lake Ontario
4. Seeing a bunch of old friends last night
5. For the dream I had that I still remember, full of closeness and tenderness. I don’t usually remember my dreams, but this one will stay with me for awhile.
