Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Find 5 new music CDs in 2014 which are worth recommending to others.
Finally, I have five

I did not think I would be able to complete this goal. I am having a difficult time finding the 5 cds worth recommending this year. I’m not sure why. There is a lot of new music out there. I guess most of it does not appeal to me and therefore, I would not recommend it.

But I now have five, and here they are:

5. Forever For Now by LP I head a song by LP on an internet radio station and immediately liked it. Now I have never heard of this artist before and know nothing about her. She has a strong voice and can belt out a song. She is worth it to give a listen.

My favorite song on the cd: Night Like This

4. I Never Learn by Lykke Li This is the third cd of Lykke that I own and this might be the best. There is a lot of feeling in her voice and she brings that feeling out

My favorite song: Gunshot

3. Nocturnal by Yuna This cd is a pop music collection and it seems to me it would be popular with 13 year old girls. It is light and peppy and for some reason I like it. Go figure. If you want that young feeling, it is worth the listen.

My favorite song: Lights and Camera

2. Ultrviolence by Lana Del Rey I don’t care what everyone says about LDR, I love her music and I think she nails it on every song on this cd. She has a great voice and this cd has a lot more drama and theatrics than previous recordings. If you only buy 2 cds this year, this should be one of them.

My favorite: Brooklyn Baby

1. 1000 Forms of Fear by Sia She write songs for Beyonce and other divas, but I am so glad she decided to record this cd herself. Sia has an amazing voice and all the troubles she has been through come through in all these songs. This is the other cd you should buy this year.

My favorite: Fire Meet Gasoline

Bonus Sia – There is a Coke commercial they play during the Olympics. It uses snipits of the Sia hit, Breathe Me. It is just the instrumental parts. This commercial is all about joy and victory. You see the celebrtion as the gold metals are given out. The ironic part is, this song is about loneliness and despair. It is one of my favorite songs and I use it while running. It is funny how this song can help move one down the road. Breathe me by Sia

One more last entry

Today was the first day of the AIDS Red Ribbon Ride. I have done this the three times over the last four years. It is a great bike ride covering 420 miles over five days. It goes through the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York state. It is a great ride.

I can’t do it this year due to my hip problems. I did not want to get out there and have a major problem or do more damage to myself. It seemed like the smart thing to do.

This ride has a great bunch of people involved. I saw them off this morning. I miss riding with them. For five days all one has to do is ride, eat and sleep. And be around the greatest bunch of people in the whole world.

And what makes this diverse bunch of people so great is that they accepted me, no questions asked, mainly because I loved to ride and wanted to help some people who needed it. It is something like 43Things. I always felt accepted here. That is what makes this place so great.

Those people out riding will be on my mind for the next few days. Everyone here will be on my mind for a long time after that.

Thanks again everyone.
