And restore her to service!
I’ve had this bus since Halloween day, 1993. Since buying it, still yellow from a school district in Nebraska, out of a farmer’s field in North Salt Lake for $500, I have extensively renovated it. Most of this work was done before 1999, and it includes a burly 500CID Cadillac V8 engine. Balanced and blueprinted, complete with dual exhausts and Edelbrock intake manifold/carb combination, it can tackle the mountain passes with ease.
The transmission has been overhauled, the rear axle updated to the newer GM T170 case, that you can still get parts for.
The interior has been completely redone as an RV-it has flush toilet, hot and cold running water, fresh/gray/black water tanks, sink, stove, vanity, kitchenette, fold down double bed, two individual office spaces.
However it’s been sitting for years, and most of the white paint has now flaked off due to moss. I just replaced some severely rusted metal brake lines, but will have to also stick in new front wheel cylinders and flex hoses. Depending on how things look, I might have to do the rear brake flex hose too.
Once all that’s done, repairs can continue on the interior. The woodwork, all maple veneer plywood, hand rubbed, custom built specifically for this bus, is in need of some rework.
The carburetor needs overhauled, and I have a bigger electric cooling fan to install. Once I got rid of the engine driven fan, I gained a half mile to the gallon of gas. Significant if you only got six to begin with!
