How I did it: 4 years. That;s at least how long it took. I have been trying for at least that long. Major depression nearly wrecked my life. I took pills, but they never helped. They only made my life more stressful due to side effects. I literally had to had hack my brain. All the books, all the motivational speakers are bullshit. Try harder, push father. Bullshit. How I did it: Well I had three factors that really halped to lose 78 lbs. the first two were circumstantial, they may not be workable for everybody: I was 308 lbs, which was fatter than my "normal" body weight, plus I was on Metformin, a diabetes drug that helps with weight loss. How I did it: Well, I really started from nothing. I was working at Wal-Mart, slinging frozen food third shift. I had some tech knowledge but not a whole lot. So I started searching for something better. Craigslist, CAreer Builder, the Paper. I didn't let any avenue go to waste. I applied for every job I could find.
