I remembered that I had started doing this consistently last year in August! Then I was looking back through the archives of the things that have made me happy, and I realized I skipped a day in April. Oh no! But I’m gonna cheat a little and say it’s close enough. :-)

In high school and college it was so much easier because everyone was there already. Now I have to go out and find them. I moved out here with my fiance since he got his dream job (Google!), and it’s mostly been great. We have a bunch of friends out here, so that helps. Unfortunately, just about all of them love programming and love talking about it. I’ve always had plenty of friends who love talking about it, but there has always been a balance in the past. I didn’t realize how important that was until recently.
So, where can I find friends who won’t go on about programming and algorithms in Silicon Valley? Hrmm…
I’m giving this up because 1) getting a job is not all that essential for me (I am beyond lucky for this) and 2) I really want to keep myself open. I want to do something I like which may or may not end up being a job. Someday I certainly want to have kids, and I enjoy being around kids, but there are many other great possibilities for me. Maybe I’ll get a job in child care, but it’s not going to be my goal
