I got my BA in Anthropology from Georgia State University in December 2004. I’m going to be honest with you…it’s isn’t something you should go into because you think there’s a lot of money and glory to be had (it isn’t at all like Indiana Jones). Do it because you have a passion for it…you’ve got to love it and live it. Don’t get discouraged when you don’t find a job in your field right away after college…plan on going to grad school. Forensic, cultural, medical, biological, urban…it’s a wide open and fascinating field and you can do a lot with it, just stick to it and you’ll get there.
I just bought my first house and it’s well worth it. I was a little hesitant about it at first because I thought it would be extremely difficult. I thought I would have to have a lot of money to put down and excellent credit, but I also didn’t want to put money in someone else’s pocket by renting. I was pleasantly surprised. I lucked up and found a house that was still being built in my price range. I put less than $1000 down, had the closing costs included in the mortgage, and I still don’t pay anymore than I would for a 3 bedroom apartment. It’s not much, but it’s mine and it’s a start.
My ultimate goal is to renovate and old crafstman style bungalow.
