Ok, I’m still not a pro or anything but I have finally mastered the stall (flipping the bottle up & catching it on the back of your hand). It was really challenging, but I DID IT! I can also do some of the more basic moves without spilling. Now I show off my talents whenever I can. Everyone thinks it’s SO easy until they try to copy my moves.

I’ve been practicing flair for a little while now & I already have a few moves down. I watched a few tutorials online & practiced with an empty liquor bottle. You can buy plastic flair bottles but they are pricey & you’ll have to get use to using a real bottle eventually anyway, just wrap duct tape around the glass so it wont go everywhere if it breaks. I started with the basic one-handed flip & the flip-to-pour (made famous by Tom Cruise in Cocktail) then I moved up to the over-the-arm flip, back or over-the-shoulder toss & stall/backhanded catch. After I got use to catching it while it had a little water in it I started working on flipping the bottle while it had a pour spout in it. I haven’t perfected flipping without spilling yet, but it wont be much longer. The hardest trick so far has been the stall. You basically flip the bottle up & catch it on the back of your hand & balance it there-lots of bruises but when you finally pull it off you’ll know they were worth it. I’m also currently teaching myself to bartend-looking for someone to train me as a barback.
I looked it up & the only classes offered near where I live cost over $100 for 12 classes. So I decided to start with dvds from the library until I could talk my DH into helping me pay for the lessons. ;)
