raw food
Getting started 2 years ago

I know the health benefits of eating 100% raw are huge and I would love that glow that raw people have, as well as more balanced moods, but it is really hard to resist these cravings.
You can check how I’m doing at my myspace page blog: www.myspace.com/loveraw.

I love it here in Australia. I am living in Katoomba, NSW now. It’s in The Blue Mountains and has some gorgeous bush walks. I’ve seen kangaroos and kookaburras and feel very at home. The only thing is I would like to be near the beach too. I hope to head down to Jervis Bay down South soon. There is great farmland there (for animal sanctuary) as well as the sea. For now I will keep enjoying myself here and enjoying the hippy vibe of the mountains. I joined an animal welfare group, which is a great way to meet new people.

soon to be published 2 years ago

I have had an account here for a while and today I thought hey I should really publish something. I have written a children’s book about animal welfare and it would be nice to have a copy in print to read to my children one day.
It looks quite complicated to format my work, but I’ll give it a go.

open an animal sanctuary
Don't breed or buy when stray pets die 3 years ago

When I lived in England I used to help out at my local animal sanctuary CAWS and I learnt a lot. I would spend my whole summers there and there were all kinds of animals. We had dogs, cats, rabbits and chinchillas. Two white donkeys, a naughty shetland called Dennis and a jersey cow. Every day was different, moving and rewarding. It has been my ambition for a long time to open my own animal sanctuary. I know it will be hard work, but I know it is something I have to do. I live in Sydney and an awful lot of dogs end up in the pound, as so many people impulse buy their pets in pet shops and then can’t look after them. If you go to PAWS website you will see there are already people trying to rescue these dogs who have 7 days to be rehomed or 14 days if they are microchipped before they are put down. My aim is to try and help some of these dogs, especially the older ones, or ones with special needs. Later on I would like to expand to a farmed animal sanctuary. I know it is a very expensive operation and a huge commitment, so I am currently trying to get savings together.

I can still eat chocolate :-) 3 years ago

After I went to the VIVA veggie show at Wembley last year it really helped me. I tried loads of delicious vegan food and learned why it was so important to make the change for good. I am a vegan now and it’s great. i lost a bit of weight with no effort, but I’m eating loads. I eat Green and Blacks Maya Gold chocolate and it is so much nicer than milk chocolate. I also love Swedish glace non-dairy ice cream. It is so yummy. I’ve bought some vegan cook books and baked a vegan chocolate christmas cake. I enjoy my food much more than before.

It's happening! 3 years ago

6 and a half weeks until my one way flight to Sydney! I had all my boxes of stuff sent out the other day, so my room is very empty now.I’m working all the time at the moment, so I can afford to have a bit of a holiday when I get there and look for somewhere to rent. I just can’t wait, but I have to because I’m my visa won’t come through for another couple of weeks. I’m going out on a prospective marriage visa, because I got engaged! I’m getting married in December on whale beach. How cool is that?!

Wombats are so cute 4 years ago

The plan is to move to Oz July 2006. I wish I was there right now, but I have to try and finish this irritating degree first. I went to stay near Sydney for a month over Christmas and a month over Easter. i went to visit my Australian boyfriend. I can’t wait til I get to live with him because I miss him loads. Visas are a pain to try and sort out. I guess the only option is to go out on a working holiday visa to start. I’m just counting down til the 23rd June when Dave will be here to visit me. Yippee! I travelled down to Melbourne whilst I was there and I want to travel all over the country. it is such an amazing, varied place.

Learn to surf
You take your car to work I'll take my board 4 years ago

I really, really want to surf. I have only tried it once and only stood up twice for about a second each time. The problem is I don’t live near any surf spots, so I guess I’ll be saving up for a trip to Cornwall for some lessons. I’m planning to move to Australia next year, so hopefully it’ll be easier there. The whole idea of being powered along by the sea is so cool. I can’t wait to give it another go.

But I love chocolate! 4 years ago

I have been a vegetarian for about 10 years. Recently I read a book called the pig who sang to the moon by Jeffrey Masson. It’s about the emotions of farm animals and it really made me think if I care about animals I should become vegan. The hardest part about it is getting other people to accept it. People make enough of a fuss about me being veggie. I know it will be worth it though to know I’m not contributing to animal suffering. Giving up chocolate will be the hardest thing for me. I have a very sweet tooth.
