In honor of Mother’s day, I wanted to make a list of all my Grandmother’s, Great-Grandmothers and so on as far back as I have names, using their maiden names when I have them. My Mother is still living, but all my Grandmother’s have passed on. So, Happy Mother’s Day to:

Research my genealogy
I've been doing this on and off for years! 7 months ago

Before computers, it was a lot harder. Unless you could pay someone or were willing and able to travel, it was hard to complete.

I have done a lot of searching in the last 6 months or so. I’m researching both my maternal and paternal side. I have loads more information on my maternal side. I keep hitting brick walls with my paternal side; my paternal side is “older” than my maternal side, so there is really nobody left to go to.

You can’t just use one program…you have to use federal, state, county, city records in order to track your family. Mine evidently moved a lot! lol

I’m really enjoying it, though. It’s hard work if you take it seriously. To those of us with the desire to find our roots, it’s well worth the time and trouble.

#61 through #70: 7 months ago

61. I refused to learn piano when I was little because my Daddy wouldn’t let me play drums. lol
62. I learned to play piano by ear and used to play duets with my Aunt. Sometimes I surprised her with my own compositions. She thought I was going to be a genius at piano.
63. Once when I was playing piano and singing with my Aunt, she declared, “Poor baby. You’re going to be an Alto like your Aunt.”
64. I never missed an episode of “Sing Along With Mitch (Miller)” when I was growing up.
65. I really do love some of all types of music.
66. At age 5, I was trading 45’s with all the neighborhood kids…mostly teens.
67. If I could only listen to one type of music, I think I would pick Folk.
68. I went to my first real concert at age 12 with my parents. I saw George Jones, Merle Haggard, Hank Snow, Dottie West, and many more.
69. As I teen, I went to lots of concerts, including Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, James Taylor, Leon Russell…
70. My favorite concert so far was seeing Frank Sinatra. Wow. I was impressed.
