I’ve always loved writing, reading, and drawing since I was little. While I was taught to draw realistically, my style has been heavily influenced by anime and manga. So, compared to non-artists, I can draw, but next to entire communities of artists out there? Let’s just say it would be unrealistic to believe I would ever be good enough to draw a manga on my own. (I think manga would be the first step in this career, if not the last XD)
Besides, I consider myself a writer. Even though I’m totally envious of skilled artists, it’s not my passion, so I want to find an artist who would be willing to work with me.
I have a couple of plans with this, and they both revolve around which college I go to. One of the colleges I want to go to has an opportunity to study abroad in Japan, and I might find an artist to illustrate my manga over there. (Of course I’d have several names prepared before I went over there :D) The only problem is how overly-specific this plan is, since so many things would need to work. Also, to get into the college I’d need over a 4.0 to get accepted…which would be a stretch. The second plan is to go to a general art college which I only need a 3.5 GPA to get into. Hopefully I can find an artist there.
Another problem with the whole anime and manga industry is that after a certain extent, the problem isn’t whether or not you have talent. Breaking into the business at all is a major mountain to cross.
If I were even able to publish a manga at all I’d be totally happy, but I would really love to write for an anime or even have my own. If I couldn’t write, even working in the business at all would be great…and I guess I’d have to stick with writing books WITHOUT pictures :D
