need some advice! 2 years ago

Ok, so tonight I had like an hour-long conversation with one of my best guy friends named Guy (yes, it is a traumatizing name, but luckily we have medication in today’s day and age). No, just kidding, but Guy and I are so similar because we both are most likely bipolar but do nothing about it cause we’re too busy helping people with their own problems and trying to do everything (overestimating your abilities = one of the top signs of bipolar, according to those “in the know” at least), we both have these crazy ideas that we can’t even control, and we both basically make people hate us because although we are both very humble, we get this sort of professor-like, lecturing tone when we are talking about something we are really passionate about. ANYWAYS, lately I developed this confidence out of nowhere and have been making people laugh all the time. I was never able to do this before approximately 3 months ago when I came home from a rather depressing semester abroad in France (again with the bipolarity!!) But I digress. Basically, we are interested in attempting to do an amateur comedy show together somewhere in DC where we are both located for the summer, but are basically scared and have no idea where to start. How do you know if what two sideshow freaks (which is basically what we are) think is hilarious will be funny to anyone else? Sometimes crazy people logic doesn’t exactly match up with normal people logic, though I’ve checked with many people who I consider very rational, and so far (I think) I’m in the clear! Does anyone have any suggestions of where to start out? How do you know if you’re actually funny or just a pompous, narcissistic jackass who likes to hear themself talk?

My Mom kept asking me why I kept telling people that I think I’m bipolar (like I’m doing right now), to which I promptly retorted, shoot I feel like I’m joining some sort of exclusive club or getting into the VIP section at some LA hotshot nightclub…thinking about it, ALL of my favorite people EVER were/are currently bipolar, depressed, or some other variation of nuts: f. scott fitzgerald, hemingway, van gogh, kate chopin, chopin, probably beethoven, sylvia plath, william blake, probably dave chappelle, probably larry the cable guy and dane cook, mariah carey (she’s just sort of crazy in general though), houston…they were all certifiably insane, yet they produced masterpieces. The only problem is that half of them ended up alcoholics in bar fights, divorced, missing an ear or having an eye gouged out for no apparent reason. Luckily I am not suicidal, homicidal, or any variation of -idal at the moment, but one thing i know is that I am not a genius like these people were: believe me people, I’ve tried those online IQ tests before and trust me, book smarts and common sense are NOT the same thing – I will let you guess as to which one is MY forte.

PHEW..sorry for the long post, clearly these things have been shut away in my mind for far too long, but if anyone seriously has any advice for a potential amateur comic, please let me know. may i add that I am a fairly attractive young female with two jobs, a 3.99 GPA, a major and a minor, graduated in 3 years with a wonderful sense of humor? JUST KIDDING!!

Thanks for the help!!
