I just got my shodan. I don’t know how long it’ll take, but I know my senseis are working to get me there. I’m really hoping that somewhere down the line, when I’m more settled that I can open my own dojo, but right now I’m happy working towards this goal—however long it takes, and helping out at my home dojo.

I’m working on a baby blanket for a friend’s baby due in three-ish weeks. (http://images.acmoore.com/productimages/242/242762.jpg) < That’s what it’s supposed to look like. I’ve made good progress; I’ve finished all of the light pink (the color that is used the most) and I’ve started on the teal color. I don’t actually have too much more to go, though I’m getting to the more difficult part of it, where I have to really pay attention to where my stitches are going (the checkerboards around the sides are nice, easy and mindless.)
Hopefully, I’ll have this done before the baby is born. Though, if not, the first time I see my friend (the father) will probably be a few weeks after the baby is born. So I’ll have plenty of time. :D
I remember as a child my older (ie by 21 years)brother came one day when I was about 7, told me that the training wheels were coming off, took them off and that was that. He left, my parents were at work and no one was around to teach me. I understand that their logic was that I would be forced to learn myself, but with my sensitive, scared nature as a child that didn’t exactly work so well. They wouldn’t let me wean myself off of the training wheels…a character in a book I had read took one wheel off and rode like that for a while and then took the other one off. I wanted to try that, but my parents wanted me to do it all or nothing. Again, I understand their logic now, looking back, but I wish that they could have been less strict on me.
Now, of course, I’m too old to pull the “it’s my parent’s fault…” card. It may be their “fault” why I didn’t learn THEN, but it’s been 13 years, I’ve had plenty of time to learn, and I just haven’t. At this point it’s only my own laziness and the fact that the older I get, the more embarrased I become about not being able to ride a bike, that are keeping me from accomplishing my goal.
