It’s 3:15, and I’ve woken up preamaturely after going to sleep too early (a rarity with me, I assure you) and as I lay in bed smoking my last cigarette (!) I pose two questions to you all. The first is a no brainer… What is everone’s preferred smoke? I am, and probably always will be, a Marb Red man. (slow down cowboy!) It was the first cig I ever smoked, and it’s tough to find its equal. I also smoke Parli Full-Flavors when there is a special, and I have a full night of partying ahead of me. Who can resist a two for one? (that is not my second question!) Lucky Strikes are also awesome (4 out of 5 doctors recommend lucky strike! That always makes me laugh) but they are hard to find sometimes.
My second question is: Where is your favorite place to smoke? One of my favorite pleasures in life is smoking outside, at night, while I’m taking a piss and looking at a clear, star filled sky. It’s the ulimate combo, the ultimate release. This is obvously more relaxing if you’re a guy :)
Most guys will agree with me that it is very relaxing to piss outside, without having to worry about aiming and such. It brings me back out of this modern life to a time when man could piss where he will, without a regard for where the man told you where you had to piss. The clear starry night is also an obvious pleasure as well, and it’s a natural reaction for men to look up as they pee anyway, a hold over from our conditioning at closely packed urinal environments, I’m sure. Add the obvious pleasure of smoking into the mix and you have a surefire zen moment. I advise all who have not tried this to…well….try it. It’s even MORE fun with a bit of alcohol in your system, so give it a shot at the next outdoor party you attend. I’m not sure if this is as pleasurable for girls, due to the physics of the thing, but I’m sure you gals can figure something out!
So, post your answers here, so we can all get to know each other a bit more, and share our own personal brand of choice and guilty smoking pleasures.

A trick my grandpa taught me when I first started smoking. He used a pipe, but you can use a cigarette as well, and although the amount of smoke you can pull is not the same, it still works fine. You begin by pulling smoke into your mouth, just as you would if you are going to blow smoke rings. If you don’t know how to do this, it’s easy. Close your lips around the cigarette, with your tongue near the front of your mouth (not touching the filter though, that’s just icky). Slowly pull your tongue towards the back of your mouth, drawing the smoke inside. Do not inhale any smoke at this time, as it dilutes the size of the cloud and makes it less impressive. Now that you have a mouthfull of smoke, you must do two things simultaneously. You open your lips slightly and slowly push the smoke out of your mouth with your tongue, while at the same time inhaling with your nose. If you play trumpet or digiridoo, the you will know this as a basic form of circular breathing. If you do this correctly, a thin trail of smoke should escape your mouth and be pulled upwards into both of your nostrils, crating a cool curling effect. Once you’ve inhaled all the smoke from your mouth, you can either blow it back out your nose, or out of your mouth, to create the full circle effect. Note that if you are new to the french inhale, or to smoking, you may experience a slight burning sensation in your sinuses and nose while you are exhaling, which is normal, as you are not used to smoke travelling through there. Hope this provides a fun diversion for you smokers, have fun impressing your friends!

Why do we pass people on the street without realizing the complex and beautiful people that they are? Why is it so hard to find contentment in a world where so many are obviously incontent and so many want to be otherwise? Why are there hundreds of millions of people searching, searching, searching for someone, anyone to connect with, on some website, at a bar, on a dating service, in a personal ad, when there are hundreds of millions of people looking just as hard for them? Why are we so afraid when we finally find what we’re looking for? Why does the internet make us more alone than ever, despite all its promises of boundless connectivity? Why do we see so many people so close and so far away that we want to know and love and hate and experience, and yet we sit and do nothing and hope that someday perhaps one of those people will find their way to us? Why is it so hard to explain to someone these thoughts and feelings that all of us have? Can’t you see it in their eyes that they’re just as lost as you are? That they are just as desperate to live and love and BE? Why, dammit, why!?
