I was once so certain... 11 months ago

I was so dead set on getting the MRUP degree, and I still find the field fascinating; however, I always find myself returning to music. So, I think my goal should be to get the MM degree and return to being a piano teacher. I miss it so badly. It was the only time in my life I felt really whole, really vocationally fulfilled.

It’s scary to get a master’s degree in music. It won’t necessarily lead to a well-paying job with benefits. Yet, I feel like if I don’t push myself as far as I can with my music, I’ll always feel a gnawing regret. I’m already grieving over giving up my piano teaching business. It only took a year to really sink in how much I lost when I stopped doing what I love for a living. I have to hold down a day job in university administration until my husband finishes school, but after that, I’m going to be a teacher again.

Needless to say, I’m giving up on the Urban studies goal.

take my husband to Japan as a graduation gift
a well-deserved celebration 16 months ago

My husband will soon be returning to school to pursue is dream of getting a degree in engineering. It’ll be a long road because we are not yet in a position for him to attend full time. The math and physics course will be more than challenging, but he’s completely capable and eager to begin.

I plan on taking him to Japan for at least 2 weeks after he graduates. I wish I could take him now because he deserves a cool trip like that simply for being so awesome, but it’ll take us all those years to save up so we can do it properly.

A new career begins. 16 months ago

In January I’ll begin taking courses toward a Master of Urban and Regional Planning. I’ve finally found an interdisciplinary field of study and a career path that is in line with my values of sustainable living. I’ve never been more professionally or academically excited.
