Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

here’s to hoping!

Kitchen?

Spent several hours cleaning out and organizing Mom’s kitchen…it was fast work and is all much better now.
Motivation for my own house?
Hmmmm.

Steam irons RULE!

I have a terrible habit of doing laundry but not folding and putting it away. It drives my 9 year old bonkers. I suspect my 2 year old will revolt too when he’s a little older…I borrowed Mom’s steam iron yesterday and did a shit load of laundry…Happy Boys, Happy Mom, and now: the excuse to clean out my closets—I need more room! :)

Manage a budget...

...I have ALWAYS failed at this.
Here’s my new idea…
Vacation savings jars.
I have been saving some jelly/spagetti glass jars lately, why I dont know but maybe now is the time to use them-
to set goals for myself:
Vacation
House
Car repairs
Fun stuff
Clothes
Kids allowance jars…

Aughrrrr

I need to get bills paid. I need a job. A real insurance job. Tom’s mother offered me marketing part time at the spa. I’m doing it. For now, since its the holidays its Chamber of Commerce meetings and after hours networking…maybe I’ll be able to market myself, too.
Today I really got nothing done online in regard to a job. What, is one going to magically appear? What am I waiting for? Why can’t I get off my ass and motivated?
I secretly like being a stay at home mom thats why.
There I said it.

A hike?

A walk at the very least. Went walking down here by my house, out in the woods where all the horse people and pit bull people live. Walked til I couldnt walk no more on Lansdowne then veered onto Wisconsin until I met Iowa and then Iowa til I couldnt walk any more either-
must have easily been 3 miles if not more. I’ll have to get in my car, drive it, and figure it out. Was nice- hard on my legs at first, then it moved up to my back and neck but I think I worked it out—didnt start to sweat until the end, the homestretch…
Home now, drinking tea, about to take an aspirin because I walked with my iPod and maybe had some songs too loud…
But I feel good. I feel really glad I walked a bit today. It’s only 11:19am and I at least got in my excersise for the day if I don’t do anything else…

I did it today!

I kidnapped Mom and made her put her boots on and go hiking with me. Lyonia Preserve in Deltona—we did 3.5 miles in the scrub. It was a beautiful clear day and nice and cool. I am in such good spirits because of it and MUST continue this!

Today I was a good girl and spent a fairly decent amount of time searching, posting, emailing for a job.

Realistic

Realistic
1) because I have a great resume
2) I have experience
3) I like what I do
4) I am good at it
5) I am young
6) and still teachable.

I just need to get off my ass and get serious.

Trailwalker, Trailblazer

Got on the FL Aggie website, found info on Trailwalkers and Trailblazers, seemed interesting and you can earn a badge doing it, too. Might be something I try- the trails are spaced far and few between however…some only less than a mile, wondering if the drive wouldnt be worth it for such short distance.

I want a joooooob...

...if one could magically appear I’d take it. I’d even consider it if it wasn’t in insurance. Sitting around with my brother (also jobless) I again panicked and became full of despair. Who hires in Nov/Dec? No one. Aughrrr. I need sunshine and happiness and lots of sex and pastries. And a job.

Day four...

...Watched two movies and visited Mom twice already. Now all I can think about is getting a little drunk so I dont feel restless, so I can park it on the couch for a few hours until I fall asleep for the night.
This is not fun. Boredom sucks.
I need a job. I need motivation to get up out of my funk today.

Whohoo

My honey dropped by unexpectedly tonight while I was putting Dylan down to bed- he practically threw his phone at me and said to make a phone call. His work buddys wife works at IOA and she has the perfect job opening for me to apply to. I am so excited! The talk was informal and went well, at quarter to nine pm no less!
Here’s to HOPING AND NOT MOPING!

Bored out of my gourd...

...posting resumes takes some serious strength out of a person! The websites should have some great music playing in the background and zippier pages for faster posting for some of us that are very computer literate. And it seriously bugs me that I am redirected to a company’s website to repost my resume and sometimes even take a quiz.
Day one of serious searching has commenced and I need a nap already.

I have many ideas for something I want, one most:
Delete the adjectives.
In type writer font.
I means what it sounds like. Cut the crap. Say what you mean.
I want to be bold enough to put this on my wrist, like a braclet.
We’ll see.
