Worth it? Well, I guess so ...

... at least I can say I did it! Mind you, it was a long time ago now, when I was but a wee lad (well, a teenage lad anyway – I was wee), and wanted to become a priest. Then I discovered puberty.

Was it worth it? Well, there was a lot of begatting, I remember that. And while it was interesting, I can’t say that I remember the whole thing. Or most it actually. Looking back, I wouldn’t say that it a bad thing. Life to me is about experience, not some book that was written well before I was born. Sure it has some interesting parallels, but so do a lot of books.

Oh, and I didn’t read the psalms … to quote God in the Simpsons, “Oh, I know … they’re so depressing!”

renovate my house
Money, money, money ...

I’m not sure that ABBA were singing about renovating a house, but if there’s one thing I’ve discovered, it’s that there are your dreams and concepts, plans and detailed sketches … and then there’s having the money to do it all!!

BUT I’M DETERMINED! As my father would say, if you want something badly enough …

Yep, some of you may have noticed that I have “build a boat” on my list of things to do. And some of you (like me) must be thinking I need to put down “become a millionaire” somewhere high on my list. But, I’ve built furniture before on very little from cheap materials and they’ve turned out well. And if you’re willing to do it yourself, then you’re removing a substantial part of the cost!

I should probably have broken this up into a number of different “to do’s”, but what the hell – I’ll just have to update regularly.

My aim is to:
  1. build in a laundry and workshop under the house,
  2. build a back deck and renovate the front deck,
  3. build an extra bedroom on part of the deck,
  4. renovate the kitchen and bathroom,
  5. repaint throughout,
  6. redo the front fence, and
  7. landscape and garden.

I’m hoping to get away with it for A$30k. I like a challenge!!!

play in a band
Hail the performer in thyself!

It doesn’t have to be some kickass band, just something that allows me room to sing, play my guitar and most of all – ENJOY ENTERTAINING!

At the end of the day, I enjoy entertaining; love the feeling of doing something that others cannot or will not. And I don’t mean that in a arrogant or competitive way – I mean, getting up there, conquering your own fear, doing the best you can (even if that means making a few mistakes) and showing others that it’s okay; that for those who are yet to get up the courage, that it is possible and not half as terrifying as it looks!

Course, I am yet to do this on a regular basis. I’ve sung in front of others, played in front of others. But a band to me, is a different thing. It requires coordination and a joining of your ego with others!

Still, this is all very rational – I don’t think that joining a band is a rational thing. It’s a gut feel. And to hell with all the words – I think it’d be farking cool!

Bring it on!!
