I think that the word “declaw” misleads us. The reality is that this is an amputation of a cat’s toes. An AMPUTATION. Imagine the difference between clipping your nails and having your fingers removed. It’s dangerous for a cat, both physically and psychologically. I hope that all enlightned people put the needs of their pets ahead of the possibility that your furniture might be scratched.

It’s a difficult world out there. The older and more fragile people are we paradoxically become more critical; more sniping, more self-justifying. We would rather be right than happy. I need to work hard on this goal.

I don’t know. If I had to balance watching Grey’s Anatomy against watching a cheesy reality show or an infomercial, Grey’s is worth it.

But if the choice were to read a good book or go to a musical performance….I’d take the book or the music.
