wtf? 11 months ago

The prothonotary wasn’t in today—again!!

grrrrr…..

This is frustrating. A friend of mine said that this office keeps the process short and sweet, but I’m going to have to call the post office and explore other options.

Worked on my thesis last night :) 11 months ago

I’ll tell you—between homeschooling my son, caring for seven rescued animals, maintaining my household, and running an online bookstore, finding time or inspiration to work on my thesis is nothing short of a miracle.

Fortunately I was inspired last night, and my son was working on a computer game that gives the player a blueprint and lets them design a living room. Good for spatial organizational skills, I thought, so I let him play in the office while I set up shop in the dining room with a notebook and my books.

One challenge has been clarifying my thesis topic—what is this really about? Also, breaking the thesis down into manageable chunks has also been difficult for me.

Organization is a challenge in all of its manifestations, including mental organization. I can’t help but wonder if I have ADHD—my dad has it, and my son was diagnosed with it. Who knows. The point isn’t the label—the point is, how do I get my mind organized and enable it to stay on task? I can’t just work on my thesis whenever I feel “inspired.” I need to work on it regularly. But whenever I sit down, I am so easily distracted by… let’s see—the pets, facebook, phone calls, my own random thoughts and ideas, anxiety about the project…

Any suggestions, anyone?

I fell off the wagon this week 11 months ago

I’m trying not to feel guilty, not to feel like a failure. It was only two days of straying from the path. But still, it doesn’t feel good.

I caved in to my relentlessly powerful sweet tooth—twice. Thursday I had a bavarian creme donut, and Friday I had two mini cinnamon buns that my Nana made me for breakfast, stuck on a plate and put right in front of my face.

On top of giving in to the high-fat, high-sugar foods, I didn’t exercise on either of these two days.

Today is better so far. I had two whole-grain waffles, my coffee with stevia (no-cal natural sweetener) and lowfat milk, and a half-serving of organic ravioli. Still a little high on the carb count, but much more reasonable than my diet on Thursday and Friday! Haven’t exercised yet as I have some academic work and business to attend to. But am looking forward to working out some time before dinner.
