Soda is SO terribly bad for your health—not just the sugar (or worse yet, some of the caustic chemicals we accept as alternate sweeteners), but even the carbonation itself, is bad for you.
The phosporic acid (that keeps the bubbles in) that is present even in carbonated water, keeps you from absorbing nutrients (from food or supplements) while it is in your stomach. If you drink soda every day, you are in a sense, starving yourself of nutrition and only absorbing sugars and carbohydrates. This is true even if you only drink diet soda.
I found a nutritional drink called Advocare Spark (5 flavors, sugar free) that is high in choline (an important amino acid that helps your brain and nerves send signals better). It also has a small amount of caffeine, and other nutrients. It helped me kick my soda habit ( I drink a spark every day before breakfast, and another mid-afternoon). It gives me increased mental focus, increased alertness, and sodas taste horrible to me. It also doesn’t make me jittery or give me a crash at the end—just about 4 or 5 hours of alertness. You can find it at www.sparkmeup.com.
Even if you don’t want to try Spark, I highly recommend that you stop drinking soda. Odds are, you’ll lose a few pounds just doing that (I did, and I feel great!) Most of all, I don’t miss it or crave it.
